John Kotter's last four steps are to empower others to act, create short-term wins, build on change, and anchor changes in corporate culture. Our Iceberg Is Melting is a fable of a colony of penguins facing a dilemma. Within this story is a strong message about the fear of change. In the story step, 5 of Kotter's change process is reached when Louis says that a scout team should go and look for another iceberg. After this, a scout team is assembled. Step 5 is also about overcoming obstacles. There were arguments among the scout team and Lois had to overcome obstacles and resistance. For example, No-No started forecasting storms to discourage the scouts and reduce their morale. Louis overcame this problem by telling No-No that his forecasting services were not required (1). Moreover, young penguins were afraid of the upcoming move. This problem was overcome when Lois asked the teachers of the colony to speak about bravery and also asked them to prepare for bravery day to honor the scouts when they returned. After this, the colony moved to step 6 which was to create short-term wins. Strong, bright, and passionate scouts jumped into the water to search for new icebergs where they could move to.
