A diverse workforce has several effects on employee engagement. Surveys on employee engagement shows that there is a higher engagement of women and people of color when there is diversity in the organization. In such organizations, employees who are diverse are valued for the differences they bring to the workplace. For example, people of color have a different perspective on doing work, work relationships, and increasing productivity. There is greater employee engagement as these perspectives are considered, discussed, and used in the workplace. Diverse workforce has a positive effect on employee engagement. There are sections of the diverse workforce that are more engaged and this increases the overall engagement in the workplace. For example, women are more engaged than men, even though they are less able to express their opinions at work. Similarly, younger workers tend to be more engaged in their employment. The inclusion of such groups increases the overall employee engagement in the workforce. There are some groups which are less engaged than other employees. For example, disabled employees are less engaged than non-disabled colleagues(a).
