The reasons for this are that collective bargaining does not protect the interests of individual workers but protects the interests of the leaders and the union officials. The result is that individual workers suffer. Consider the case of unions that bargain for higher wages and more benefits and force the company to close down or outsource. The interest of the individual workers is to keep their jobs not force higher wages. Often workers are trained in a particular industry, their skills are limited, and similar businesses do not operate in the vicinity.
