Inventor of the "box radio" for homes and the pioneer of mainstream radio and television broadcasting, specifically, Sarnoff invented the concept of linking hundreds of broadcast stations and formed what is now the National Broadcasting Co (Schwartz, 2002).
Background and History:
David Sarnoff was born on February 27, 1891 in Belaruz and immigrated at a young age to the United States in 1900 and began working various odd jobs to raise money to help his father support his mother and three brothers, and one sister. At age 15, Sarnoff's father became gravely ill with Tuberculosis and this forced the young Sarnoff toward the pursuit of a fulltime job to support his family. He found a position as an office assistant at the Commercial Cable Company (Lyons, 2006).
After working for a few years at Commercial Cable Company, Sarnoff had a disagreement with his supervisor based on his desire to take unpaid leave to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Upon his superior's refusal to allow him his time off, Sarnoff left Commercial Cable Company and ...
