While providing healthcare is valuable to both employee and employer, this small task could prove to be a real challenge for small businesses. Small businesses are not able to cash in on purchasing power which is there with big firms. In the process, they end up paying about 18% more for the same health insurance policy as paid for by big firm. The Obama administration has intended to provide affordable health insurance to small businesses. Under this option, small businesses would have same options as already available to big businesses. Under the affordable health care act, the costs of providing insurance would come down. In the scheme, businesses with 25 employees or less providing health insurance can qualify for a small business tax credit of up to 35% to offset the cost of insurance. The small business tax credit can go upto 50% for qualifying businesses. This will make cost of providing insurance even lower. Under the new health care law employers can get financial help through Early Retiree Reinsurance which is aimed at providing health insurance to retirees between 55-64 years of age.
