Diversity includes the ways in which individuals differ from each other and this includes race, gender, age, disability, religion and sexual orientation. Diversity within organizations can have positive or negative effect on individual behavior. Some of the issues in the workplace regarding diversity include ethnicity, geographical differences, gender, religion and these highly affect individual behaviors within organizations. To illustrate how religion affects an individual's motivation in workplace, let us take as an example a non-catholic staff working in a catholic school. Most of the personnel are Catholics but if one is not a Catholic, he or she would surely feel differently when situations arise that he or she needs to attend catholic masses and do other Catholic activities and this will affect negatively his or her job satisfaction and motivation.
Racial discrimination is also another aspect in diversity. Some nationalities discriminate other nationalities and when this happens, those discriminated feel inferior and end up not being able to give their best in their jobs.
