1. Discuss culture, values, ethics, and other elements that lead to differences in social culture.
Culture is that group of feelings, teachings, beliefs, and placements we all grow up with. Not all cultural experiences in the US are the same. While this is true for all people, in the US there are the added cultural differences from different countries, modified to fit the current ideals, but also in many cases, very tradition bound. The values can be seen in many homes where the way that children are raised, foods served (when and how), and activities are indicative of differences. Everyone has heard of Italian or Jewish guilt. These are strict rules of values and ethics that mothers place on their children. When the child does not meet the expectations, then there is "guilt." These may clash with the strong values of others, where such things as curfews or freedoms for women are different. There is also the clash of urban, suburban, and rural cultures. All of these have similarities, but they are also different dependent on the place and local values of the person. You can see this is the bedtimes of people, the attendance of churches, sometimes the number of churches in an area is an indication of what is expected.
Cultural differences can also come from perspectives of the individual. Even if they live in the same house, the oldest child will have a different cultural experience than a younger child, a middle child, an only child. Women, men, and different races all approach their cultures from different perspectives. The idea of the glass ceiling is popular and is often the way women and ethnicities view their world. This changes or colors their attitudes and beliefs, which make up the cultural differences. With all these perspectives, the social culture of the United States is varied and it is often difficult to reconcile one ideal with another. There are many singular needs and all these different cultural perspectives must be blended for the good of as many as possible.
