The advice I would give employees is to increase their level of value. Efficiency is achieved by individuals who are willing to make a difference within the organization. An employee should make constant strides to go above and beyond the call of duty or of what is expected of them, this is what gives an exceptional employee an advantage over other employees. Each employee has the potential for leadership in which case managers, supervisors, and/or leaders take notice and seek out individuals who may possess potential leadership quality.

Therefore, an ideal employee is one who does not count down the minutes till their shift is over, rather an ideal employee is the opposite, he/she is the one who comes to work early and stays late or until the job is completed with no carryover into the next business day. An ideal employee is also the one who hungers for additional work related tasks and is appreciative for the challenge associated with each new responsibility. An employee must acquire the ability to stand out in an effort to make a lasting impression on consumers, peers and colleagues.

I would also emphasize the importance of cross training for various job functions within the organization, this would assist an employee in being a multifaceted employee who is able to take on a plethora of job responsibilities in the absence of fellow co-workers, this could be a beneficial attribute for both organization and employee, i.e. employee would receive monetary compensation or promotion for their hard work and dedication to the company's overall objective and the organization would increase in the following: productivity, quality, clientele and profitability which is an ultimate win-win for all parties involved. An employee is most valuable when he/she is self-motivated to exceed instead of waiting for charismatic leaders to motivate them to move forward.
