African Americans continue to experience poverty and education inequalities in the United States, even though much of the social discrimination from the 1950's and 1960's has decreased (Do Something, 2012, para 7). There have also been some examples cited with black women being followed in stores, black men being pulled over "for being black" and women who lock their car doors when a black man walks by (Williams, 2013). These types of experiences happen in both the U.S. and in other countries who are less familiar with African American individuals and less exposed to other races and cultures.
