Morrison Knudsen Corporation was found draining contaminated water off Harbor Island, a Superfund site into the Duwamish River. The company Morrison Knudsen Corporation was cleaning an industrial property owned by the Port of Seattle. The effect on its workers was that employees began to suffer mysterious nosebleeds, headaches and unexplained tiredness. Workers started fainting from the poisons. The contaminated waste was dumped into the river and this caused the workers to be exposed to toxics. The US Environmental Protection agency was informed and it launched a major investigation.
The state issued in October 2000, 34 citations for violations including not protecting its workers from hazardous substances.
