Micro John thought of himself as an old-fashioned macho manager. He did not show effective leadership qualities, there was fiction in the group and John was believed to be the cause of the fiction.
Macro: Kate has found that the project team is not functioning fast enough and is not turning out results, in short the group is not functioning effectively.
The main cause is being attributed to the dysfunctional leadership style of John. The impression he gave was that he was the big cheese, he joked about serious matters and some employees perceived his inappropriate humor as the cause of failure. Even though the team that was working on team building exercises was doing serious work, John acted in a flippant manner showing scant respect for the feelings and the efforts of his team members.
