The 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act or PRWOR was brought by the US congress in 1996, as a Welfare reform Act. It was seen by the government as a comprehensive welfare reform plan that helped in changing the country's welfare system by bringing the system of work in exchange for time-limited assistance. The act was seen much like HR4, the previous welfare bill that the President vetoed. The government had to face criticism for this bill from community activists, women's rights, social service advocacy, labor, minority and religious groups on the issue of changing the Aid given to the families with dependent children.
