Diversity is perceived in many different ways. The merriam-webster online dictionary definition is "The quality or state of having many different forms, types, ideas, etc.
The state of having people who are different races or who have different cultures in a group or organization."
Diversity came about in the 1960s from affirmative action and from the law to comply with equal opportunity employment objectives. Diversity in the beginning included race, ethnicity, and gender.
