Best practices in Planning and Development Technology

There are several techniques that are used in the planning and development of an employee. Examples of these techniques are- position rotation, project assignment, multiple management, conferences, group discussions, case studies, programmed instructions, lectures, management games etc.

Five best practice techniques are-

1. Position rotation- This technique is used to transfer employees from one position to another in a planned manner. The strength of this technique is that it increases the knowledge and skills of an employee and reduces monotony and boredom through variety of work. The weakness of this technique is that it causes disturbance in the established operations. It also demoralizes the intelligent employees. This technique is used by Wall Mart.

2. Multiple management technique- In this technique, a junior board of young executives is constituted and they analyze the major problems of the company and then recommend it to the Board of Directors. The strength of this technique is that it helps to identify the employees' talent. The weakness of this technique is that it is not suitable for the lower level executives. This technique is used by Infosys.

3. Case study technique- In this technique, a real or hypothetical business problem demanding solution is presented in writing to the employees. The strength of this technique is that it promotes analytical thinking and problem solving skills and also encourages open-mindedness and provides a means of integrating knowledge. The weakness of this technique is that it may suppress its critical faculties of mediocre employees and it is time consuming and expensive. This technique is used by Wipro.

4. Programmed Instructions- This technique is used to incorporate a pre-arranged and proposed acquisitions of some specific skills or knowledge. The strength of this technique is that the employees take an active part in the programs and the individual difference could also be taken into consideration. Weakness of this technique is that the learning atmosphere is impersonal and the cost and time involved in such program is very high. This technique is used by Igor Corporation.
