In brief: Stem cells are cells that have the potential to develop into other biological cells type and are also able to facilitate important repair processes in the body. What makes these cells especially unique is their ability to continually renew. With that in mind, stem cells are said to have 2 inherent properties 1) self renewal; and 2) potency (this is the ability to differentiate into other cell types).
