FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE CONTRACTILE FORCE OF A MUSCLE
1. Wave (temporal) summation: This takes place when a second stimulus is applied after the refractory period of a previous stimulus but before the muscle fiber has finished relaxing. This second contraction will be stronger than the first.
2. Staircase effect (treppe): This takes place when a second stimulus is applied after the muscle fiber has completely relaxed. In other words, wave summation cannot occur because the two stimuli are too far apart in time. However, the second contraction (and subsequent ones) can be ...
Factors influencing contractile force as well as velocity and duration of contraction are provided.
