There are two methods for collecting data .it can be classified into two categories qualitative and quantitative.
Qualitative research - usually used for exploratory purposes - examples include focus groups, in-depth interviews, and projective techniques
Quantitative research - usually used to draw conclusions - examples include surveys and questionnaires

Methods of collecting primary data:
Much of the information available internally or obtained through external sources is either generated on the basis of day-to -day activities of the business or in case of external data it may be related to the general economic environment. But, sometimes, the decision making in an organization involves information about future or future trends in the behavior of variables.
