II. Summary: Plot

The movie is the film adaptation of the Steve Lopez's 2008 novel The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music. The movie released earlier this year is a powerful drama based on the life of Nathaniel Ayers (played by Foxx) - his musical genius, his schizophrenia, his journey into homelessness and his subsequent salvation in the form of an unlikely ally and eventual friend in Steve Lopez (played by Downey), the LA Times columnist who wrote a series of articles about Ayers - his incredible talent, his mental illness and his life in Skid Row - one of L.A.'s most notorious downtown areas.
