It is interesting to consider that early in our nation's history social work and welfare was considered to be the domain and perhaps even the responsibility of private organizations especially religious organizations. Churches, the Salvation Army, soup kitchens and organizations like Hull House helped people in need, offered food, counseling and life skills training and advice.
Private social work organizations seem better equipped to provide for many social services. First of all private organizations have a much smaller bureaucracy to have to deal with. Less money and time are wasted on middle management with more money invested in the people who need ...
