Socrates is known as the so-called father of Western education and philosophy, and he had a student named Plato who also had a student named Aristotle. Although these three philosophers are obviously intertwined, they possessed different schools of thought, but these were all rooted in the notion that philosophy is a way of life as opposed to the current state of philosophy that primarily exists in the educational realm. Plato and Aristotle were less inclined to practice philosophy as a way of living for rational beings, but nonetheless, they viewed philosophy as an intellectual exercise that helped them question all conceptions utilizing critical thinking that were rooted in rational faculty that in which an emphasis was placed and continues to be placed on the application of human intelligence as opposed to knowledge.
