According to leading criminologist Elliott Currie (1998), there are five major strategies for confronting deviance and crime. They include the following:
• Reduce inequality and social impoverishment
• Replace unstable, low-wage jobs with decent jobs
• Prevent child abuse and neglect
• Increase economic/social stability of communities
• Improve education in all communities

Choose one that you feel would be most beneficial to reducing crime and deviance and explain why you feel this way. Include sociological concepts and theory to support your ideas. If you do not agree with any of these strategies as a way to control deviance and crime, present your own idea and fully support and explain it.

First and foremost, (you) must understand that the so called "criminal" justice system is actually a criminal injustice system that primarily serves the same functions that have been employed to control minorities and the poor throughout the history of America. America was founded on slavery and inhumanity, and while founding the country upon these policies, lawmakers such as those who wrote the U.S. constitution had the audacity to put in writing that "all" men were created equal under God. This would be puzzling to those who were legally enabled to be enslaved by these same men creating these laws as it was legal to enslave the Black men and women and their children were also considered 1/5th human under the law.
