As you explore this vast topic, I do see marked socialization differences in terms of gender and emotional displays. Since I have worked with teens for 13 years, I see the signs with preteens early to denote a rigid gender difference, in the "boys don't cry" lack of emotional norms and "the girls are dramatic" notions, to encourage more outward emotions as expected behaviors from girls more than boys.
