Infant researcher and parents' educator Burton White (1990) believes there are three basic general goals that parents and/or caregivers should pursue:
1.To give the infant a sense of being loved and cared for.
2.To help the infant to develop specific skills.
3.To encourage the infant's interest in the outside world.
