Language is the biggest barrier to Hispanics receiving health care. Not everyone in the Hispanic community speaks English and if they do it may be limited. It is important to have a proper translator, not just another family member. A translator is needed who is well versed in medical terminology. It is also important to have medical literature (discharge paperwork, medication instructions, etc) available in Spanish for clients who speak and read English as a second language.
