Osman, Kopper & Barrios (2004), in the article, Reliability and Validity of the Beck Depression Inventory-II with adolescent psychiatric, Inpatients, engaged in an investigation to validate the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II; A. T. Beck, R. A. Steer, & G. K. Brown, 1996) for adolescent psychiatric inpatients, which was their sample, who were predominantly Caucasian.
In study 1, content validity was assessed. Specifically, the authors had expert raters (N= 7) and adolescent psychiatric inpatients (N =13) evaluate the BDI-II items to assess content validity (see Study 1, p.3). The authors made note that the BDI-II manual reported: "the BDI-II was developed especially to assess the depressive symptoms listed as criteria for depressive disorders in the DSM-IV" (Beck et al., 1996, p. 25, as cited in the article).
