? Assessment is the initial step in the therapeutic process in case studies. You cannot adequately determine how you will provide counseling such as formulating goals and/or objectives until you have assessed the problem. Assessment aids in helping the counselor or psychologist to develop strategies for the counseling session such as: obtaining an overall picture of the clients background and history. Thus, ways of conceptualizing perspectives in an individuals' case is to focus on what type of information to gather. As an example, a therapist assessing a client from the perspective of a personality disorder would be focused on the early history of the client to help in understanding what may have contributed to the dysfunction in personality.
