The multifactorial model is holistic as it includes BIOLOGICAL (e.g. family history of disease, exposure to infectious organisms, inoculations, functioning of the immune system, medical history, congenial disabilities and birth complications, physiological conditions, such as hypertension, serum cholesterol, reactivity of the cardiovascular, system to stress like "heart reactor"; pain and discomfort, age, gender, ethnicity -like genetic link to Tay-Sachs disease or sickle-cell anemia, etc.), SOCIO-CULTURAL (e.g. socioeconomic status, family circumstances - social class, family size, family conflict, family disorientation; access to health care, prejudice and discrimination, health related cultural and religious beliefs and practices, health promotion in the workplace and community and health-related legislation), ENVIRONMENTAL (e.g. safety, water quality, pollution, radiation, global warming, ozone depletion, solid waste treatment and sanitation, etc.) and PERSONALITY/psychological FACTORS (e.g. seeking or (avoiding) information about their disease, psychological hardiness, self-efficacy e expectations, psychological conflict, optimism and pessimism attitudes, attributional style -like how one explains ones failures and health problems; health locus of control -belief that one is or is not in control of one's life; introversion, extroversion; coronary prone (type A) personality; tendencies to express or keep in ones' feelings of anger and frustration; depression/anxiety; hostility/suspiciousness) to explain human behavior and deviations in human behavior, such as mental illness or disease.

In diagnosing illnesses, THEN, components of the four dimensions (e.g. biological, socio-cultural, personality and environmental) that influence human behavior are considered in the etiology as well as in the treatment of the disorder or disease.
