Does it occur by being empathic and showing positive regard to a client as in feeling/humanistic change models, or does it occur though behavioral techniques applied, such as modeling, reinforcement, flooding, and so on. .

Generally helping is a process of interaction occurring between two people. "The helper is trying to facilitate the helpee in his/her attempt to use resources to take action to bring about a positive outcome to a problem. Effective helpers share common characteristics including "self-awareness, facilitative attitudes and values, emotional objectivity, an investigative approach, and a desire to strive for competence. Your personal model of helping could be client centered and humanistic, while using an eclectic approach through using techniques from various theories throughout the counselling process.

Most people will form their helping viewpoint based on their personal helping style, and what theories best fit into their natural style of helping. It often involves trying each theory and techniques for ease of use, as well as adhering to the theoretical underpinnings of the theory. However, many people use techniques from various theories, even though they do not agree 100% with the theoretical underpinning. These are the eclectic counselors.
