Community Organization Research - Goodwill

I have chosen Goodwill.

Research a community organization on an individual basis.

Write a short overview of the organization that addresses the following:

- Evaluate the organization's involvement and responsibility to the community.
- Summarize what factors have influenced the social responsibility strategies of the organization.
- Does the organization have a social initiative? If so, what is it? If not, identify a social initiative for the organization.
- What are the potential ethical or moral effects of the organization's social initiative or potential social initiative?

Goodwill is a really good choice for an assignment like this. Remember, though, I cannot answer the question for you directly. I can only list out a bunch of ideas that can help you put something together.

The more I read, I see how Goodwill and the YMCA use almost identical language in setting out their goals. The only real difference is that the former deals with job training, while the Y does not.

They sold about $2.5 billion of goods last year, while government agencies at all levels contributed about $600 million overall.

They recently partnered with Bon-Ton stores.

And here for a basic overview:

Old clothes are traded in and sold out of Goodwill outlets. Clothes are given in at Bon-Tons, and given over to Goodwill. The connection of Goodwill to Bon-Ton means that the company gets a moral face lift. BT looks like its doing something good to give back (so to speak). Each donation (taken as a whole) gets a 25% coupon to use at the BT store. BT gets new customers, a moral lift, and Goodwill gets ...
