A slightly tricky application of the quadratic formula

Show why

-az^2 + (1+a^2)z - a = -a(z - (1/a))(z-a)

Solution Summary

The quadratic formula can be used to find the roots of any quadratic, and hence to factor that quadratic. This approach can continue to be used even when the coefficients of the quadratic are not just numbers, but expressions in another variable. The solution is a half page word document with equations written in Mathtype showing a step by step application of such a case.
