The meaning of public service by police officers is placated upon the dedication to actually serving the entire community, which is something that the police don't do. I've been a citizen of the United States for over 32 years, and despite being born in the country, as a result of my skin color, I've never encountered police who have served and protected me. Even when I've been stranded on the roadside, or a police officer has seemingly stopped to assist, the police have instead ran checks on my identity instead of serving and protecting me.
