The first case that will be discussed is the case involving the Amy Act, which has been proposed to address compensation for childhood sexual abuse victims. The case was based upon the premise that the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, §2259, which required district courts to award restitution for victims of child pornography , could be extended to victims who sued others who distributed the pornography. The case involved Doyle Randall Paroline, who was convicted of possessing child porn images that contained depictions of the sexual abuse of a young girl who was named in court for security and protective reasons as "Amy". Her pictures had been previously distributed by the person convicted of sexually abusing her for the purposes of making child pornography, her uncle, and spread across the internet.
