One must remember Vietnam was an unpopular war in the United States and it was the first war in which American journalists had virtually free reign with the advent of live television, telex (fax), telephone and commercial flights. The images which were sent back to the American public were of the actual reality of war. In WW II the press was censored by the military and the war had a clear "us against them theme" (good vs. Evil). However, in Vietnam it was not clear and from the beginning of the war, the motives, tactics, and results were questioned by people in government, at home as well as other countries.
