1920 - August 17th, The Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution is ratified granting women the right to vote in national elections. Women had already been granted the right to vote in several states but the 19th Amendment allowed to women to vote in every election in the US whether at the state or national level. 1921 - May 18th, European immigration quotas are instituted for the first time in American History. The quotas were designed to limit the immigration of eastern and southern Europeans while encouraging the immigration of northern and western Europeans. 1922 - February 22nd, Washington Naval Treaty is negotiated limiting construction of Capital Ships by the five largest naval powers. The treaty was negotiated and signed by Britain, the US, Japan, France and Italy. It limited construction of Battleships, Battlecruisers and Aircraft Carriers. The aim of the treaties was to avoid an arms race similar to what had occurred between England and Germany prior to World War I.
