This is a somewhat subjective question, but the most important development would be the developmental changes in climate and environment that resulted in the need to adapt, including the need to change the types (different availability of food from small animals, to vegetation, to a mixture of plant and animal, to agriculture and the making of their own food) and methods (e.g., hunting and gathering, to tools and technological advances) as a way of meeting their survival needs over time. Finally, with the sophistication of tools needed to build shelters and protect themselves from larger animals, together with the changing living environment (e.g., forest to grassland), came the agriculture revolution.
