The First and Second New Deals refer to President Franklin D. Roosevelt first 100 hundred days in his presidency through two separate terms although some historians differ this is a typically generally accepted position. The First New Deal included acts in accordance with Roosevelt's pledge to slash government spending, in which the Economy Act was passed empowering him to cut the pensions of veterans and the salaries of government employees. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) employed a half million young men on a variety of conservation projects. These projects sought to keep national landmarks such as national parks natural through conservation efforts (Maney, 1998).
