In the study "Opsite Flexifix: An effective adjunct in the management of pain and hypersensitivity in the hand," Boscheinen-Morrin and Shannon (2001) investigated the effectiveness of the technique called Opsite Flexifix.

As a backdrop drop the study, the authors reviewed the literature that supported the need for this study. There is a general consensus that hand injury and trauma commonly results in pain, swelling and stiffness. For most people the pain runs its course and subsides, but for a small percentage of "patients, however, pain will persist long after the initial trauma" (Boscheinen-Morrin & Shannon, 2001).
