In reference to atherosclerosis, there is the development of deposits of plaque and cholesterol that accumulate within the person's body over time, and this results in the inner lining of the person's artery tearing. Once this artery tears, these deposits gradually harden, which results in the blood flow being limited in regard to the arterial lumen.
