Although complex, this question is fairly straightforward. It is asking you to create and define a capacity utilization plan, linking information systems, service delivery and balancing capacity and demand. Capacity Utilization Plan: The relationship between capacity, wait time, and variation in patient's demand need are considered in the capacity utilization plan.

Before we discuss creating and defining a capacity utilization plan, please refer to the attached article and read the suggested pages for each part of this question.

Defining Capacity Utilization Plan:

A capacity utilization plan is a service delivery plan with the purpose of providing effective and efficient service delivery through balancing capacity (e.g. how many patients/customers can we see per day, per hour, etc) and demand (e.g., how many patients/customers demand out services). The specific action plan is linked to the company mission and vision statements and aims (see examples below). It meets the mission of the organization; mainly by utilizing the time, space and labor as effectively and efficiently as possible in order to provide quality services and care by meeting the demands of the customers (i.e., timely and with quality). As effective and efficient capacity utilization increases, so does patient satisfaction and quality of care/services also increases (See Healthcare Assess and Efficiency" for further discussion). Thus, the capacity utilization plan meets the vision and mission of the organization by providing high quality care/services to patients/customers.

EXAMPLE 1: Factors to include in capacity utilization plan

In general, you will include such factors as:

1. Identify the amount of time patients will have to wait to see doctor/to be serviced (e.g., The patients will be expected to wait no longer than 15 minutes to see the doctor, etc.)
2. Meet the needs and expectations of patient/customer while they wait (e.g., the capacity of the waiting room will be for 10 waiting patients, patients will be greeted respectively, provided with a TV and magazines, etc. p. 26 attachment)
