The case that I will discuss is Bouvia v. Superior Court, which was a precedent setting case that reaffirmed a patient's right to refuse medical force feeding and choose to die using "assisted suicide" in regard to the refusal of food resulting in the death of the patient. The case involved a plaintiff who was suffering from cerebral palsy as well as arthritis. Her body began to fail as a result of the cerebral palsy, which left her unable to utilize her limbs and with the desire to want to end her life by refusing to eat and she chose to do this while living at a government funded medical facility that helped care for her while she endured her chronic and incurable disease. She chose to refuse to eat, which resulted in the medical personnel within the government funded public hospital force feeding the patient who was even held down by many people during this time if she chose to bite through her feeding tubes.
