First, please note how Ellison's novel reiterates the theme of racial discrimination and what it means to be subjugated in terms of racial "invisibility." When looking at personal identity and affirmation, Invisible Man's confrontation with Dr. Bledsoe is one of many devastating encounters. You might also add how the grandfather's curse plays a role in the novel.

The novel is also similar to the other pieces because they all seem to denote a quest for personal, gender, racial, and other types of identities. They all seem to reflect genuine human experiences.

However, The Invisible Man is a bit different than the other pieces in the detailed narration that follow the novel. The novel is quite philosophical in areas such as "Responsibility rests upon recognition and recognition is a form of agreement." Besides more character depth in the novel, the Invisible Man's hospital experience shows a death and rebirth experience that also resonates in the other pieces.
