It also provides several essential fatty acid, as well as fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. They also provide satiety in eating, giving flavor to food.

Body fat is an essential part of our nerves, spinal cord, brain and cell membranes. It pads the kidneys and other organs internally. Externally, fat provides a layer of protection from the cold. In women, fat can help nourish a baby.
