This source discusses immigration and U.S. border control. It provides a brief history of border control and its efforts to heighten US-Mexico border security in order to reduce the amount of illegal immigrants who enter this country. Also discussed is the heightened response after the 9/11 terrorist attacks to keep the borders safe. The author contends that the U.S. should reconsider associating border control with national security and maintains that an open U.S.-Mexican border would allow for greater economic development. However, Congress and the administration continue to be focused on the elusive goal of creating a perfectly secure border through
    enforcement measures alone.
