A perfect illustration of measurement, ratio and proportion in real life is kisses. Yep, chocolate kisses at Valentines time. It's great fun, grand for hands-on involvement and of course fun to eat! What I have students do is make a table in Microsoft Word. They are either assigned a certain number of kisses or they can select among 20 options.
