Motivation by both the mentor and mentee is needed in order to have a successful intervention. Both parties need to be willing and inspired to work together in order to develop a strategy for learning that will work to produce positive results.

A system to identify students who are in need of intervention as well as one to monitor the effectiveness of the intervention is also needed in order to see success.

Staffing the intervention initiative with qualified personnel who are trained to provide high quality and supportive services to the students in the intervention.
