I am a parent of one child who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, another who was diagnosed with ADHD and just recently one who was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder. For the oldest one, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 10 years, it was beneficial for her to remain in mainstream classes, because her disability did not make her unable to learn in regular classes. She was able to focus on her work most of the time; however, her teachers knew that if she was having difficulty, she was allowed to go to the counselor's office if necessary.
