There are many factors which may account for developmental differences in children. These could include factors such as physical injuries, congenital problems, genetics, or socio-economic background.
A physical injury could cause a child to lose physical abilities in one part of the body. For example, a child might be involved in an automobile accident which causes her to lose some mobility in her legs. This child might require a walker or wheelchair, and she may need extra assistance in doing tasks that are easier for her peers.
