Installation
To install Spybot S&D, the file is run and the installation program starts.

After the installation has finished, the Spybot Search & Destroy button is clicked to install the Spybot S&D.

Running a scan

The left side of the program has a navigation bar that leads to all functions of the program. The first section there (the top most button) is labeled Spybot S&D and leads to the main page. It shows an empty list and a toolbar at the bottom. The scanning is started by pressing the first button in this toolbar "Check for problems".

Interpreting the results

Looking at what Spybot S&D detected, the red entries represent spyware and similar threats, and the green entries, represent usage tracks. For the usage tracks removal is not critical, but depends on personal preferences.

This discussion is based on two free antivirus programs, Avira Antivir, and AVG. We have chosen free programs because both of them are very good in finding viruses and can challenge any commercial antivirus programs.

The findings presented here are well sourced from AV comparative.org's antivirus comparison tests conduced in Nov 2008 (test #20) and Feb 2009 (test #21), which are the latest as of this writing.
