Identify any new functional groups in the organic product(s) by circling than and naming them clearly. State the type of reaction that has occurred, and explain how you arrived at your answer.

    I am having problems trying to complete the equation that is required, and also clarifying the names of compounds 1 and 2. Please explain it in a step by step explanation. I have also determined that -OH is an alcohol functional group and COOH is a carboxylic acid group. The only way that these two groups react together via a condensation reaction is to give an ester.
