The attached file contains the visual depiction of the chemicals compounding. In the diagram, the equation for the following reaction is incomplete, with only the reactants shown, The missing product(s) are indicated by a question mark. Identify any functional group(s) in compounds 1 & 2 by circling them and naming them clearly. Complete the equation by drawing the abbreviated structural formula(e) of the product(s) of this reaction in place of the question mark. Identify any new functional groups in the organic product(s) by circling than and naming them clearly. State the type of reaction that has occurred, and explain how you arrived at your answer.

I am having problems trying to complete the equation that is required, and also clarifying the names of compounds 1 and 2. Please explain it in a step by step explanation. I have also determined that -OH is an alcohol functional group and COOH is a carboxylic acid group. The only way that these two groups react together via a condensation reaction is to give an ester.

Please use the attached diagrams, explaining all parts of the chemical reaction. It should all be fairly self-explanatory and I hope it helps you out!

Before we worry about the reaction between the two compounds, we must first identify the functional groups in the two molecules. A functional group is the part of a molecule where most of its chemical reactions occur. It is the part that effectively determines the compound's chemical properties. Compound 1 actually contains two functional groups. It is an allylic alcohol whose functional groups are the carbon-carbon double bond (alkene) and the hydroxyl group, as shown in the diagram attached.

Compound 2 is a carboxylic acid and contains a carboxyl ...
