When (1) and (2) are placed in a solution of sodium methoxide and methanol, (3) is formed. What is the structure of (3)? Provide a DETAILED mechanism for this reaction.
Provide a DETAILED mechanism for the conversion of (3) to (4), carbon dioxide and acetone.
In both mechanisms, indicate which reactions are reversible.
